"Much Water Many Bridges takes the reader from the author's early garden cane days to the present hi-tec era of fish finder baitboards, carbon poles almost as long as cricket pitches and inflatable contraptions that allow trout anglers to walk on water. Along the way he shares a midnight feast with a fox, loses his breakfast to a couple of water voles, spends a night with a toad and makes a fine catch of rudd from the top of an elm tree. For the scientifically inclined there is a piece on the colour preferences of female chaffinches, male reed buntings and water shrews; and for the musical the incident of the melody making kingfisher. This is not a book about big fish, though one or two do make cameo appearances; nor is it an instructional book on how to catch any fish though the reader may gleam a few tips.
