Hardcover. Zustand: New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: New. 1st Edition. Climate Change and Island and Coastal Vulnerability is the outcome of a selection of peer reviewed edited papers presented a the International Workshop on Climate change and Island Vulnerability (IWCCI) held at Kadmat Island Lakshadweep, India in October 2010. Marine and coastal biodiversity sea level rise vulnerability, fisheries climate change impact on livelihood options water and sanitation in island ecosystem and mitigation, adaptation and governance are the focal themes. The basic concept conveyed in the book is that biodiversity of islands is to be protected as a natural mechanism to mitigate climate change. Probability recurrence of mass coral bleaching and the management of coral reefs and their future protection are discussed in this book. Marine productivity and climate change for the last ten thousand years in the Arabian Sea have been examined with core records. Green technology is suggested as an important tool for mitigation and adaptation programmes in climate change. Measures taken to project biomass utilisation of islands as an energy source is delineated. Climate change may pose a potential threat on human health. Improved sanitation packages and models that are cost effective and environment friendly for islands are uniquely presented in this book.
Hardcover. Zustand: New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: New. 1st Edition. The scientific community has now widely accepted climate change as a reality. It is the most dynamic existential threat to be faced by the humanity. Changing climate is bringing about rapid changes in the environment. This book presents authoritative contributions from national and international researchers on pattern of change in climate variables and their environmental consequences. Book covers the consequences of change in climate variables both to physical and biological environments. It also discusses the possible impact on livelihood options of the people and identifies the feasible mitigation and adaptation options available to the planners and administrators. The book presents the specific case studies carried out in different environmental and ecological conditions to demonstrate the signs of climate change impact on environment and methodological approach that can be adopted to address these issues scientifically. This book is a baseline reference for researchers, environmentalist, planners, policy makers as well as administrators who are concerned with the future of the planet Earth.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This open access booknot only describes the challenges of climate disruption, but also presents solutions. The challenges described include air pollution, climate change, extreme weather, and related health impacts that range from heat stress, vector-borne diseases, food and water insecurity and chronic diseases to malnutrition and mental well-being.The influence of humans on climate change has been established through extensive published evidence and reports. However, the connections between climate change, the health of the planet and the impact on human health have not received the same level of attention. Therefore, the global focus on the public health impacts of climate change is a relatively recent area of interest. This focus is timely since scientists have concluded that changes in climate have led to new weather extremes such as floods, storms, heat waves, droughts and fires, in turn leading to more than 600,000 deaths and the displacement of nearly 4 billion people in the last 20 years.Previous work on the health impacts of climate change was limited mostly to epidemiologic approaches and outcomes and focused less on multidisciplinary, multi-faceted collaborations between physical scientists, public health researchers and policy makers. Further, there was little attention paid to faith-based and ethical approaches to the problem. The solutions and actions we explore in this book engage diverse sectors of civil society, faith leadership, and political leadership, all oriented by ethics, advocacy, and policy with a special focus on poor and vulnerable populations. The book highlights areas we think will resonate broadly with the public, faith leaders, researchers and students across disciplines including the humanities, and policy makers.

The purpose of this book is to bring together and integrate the subject matter that deals with the water quality modelling, monitoring and assessment techniques, wastewater treatment technology and sociological approach in a single text. The book is divided into twenty chapters and is intended to be a comprehensive reference for students, professionals and researchers working on various aspects of water environment technology. The book seeks its impact from the diverse nature of content revealing situations from different countries of Asia. The papers published in this book were selected from the Ist International Forum on Asian Water Environment Technology held in 2013 in New Delhi, India. They are a showcase of the water environmental problems in Asia and the countermeasures to those problems. This book refers to water quality requirements emphasizing on the factors that affect the water environment. The treated wastewater as a new resource of water is also referred to enlighten the readers on the important items of water reuse. Selection of the most effective and proper waste water treatment is actually the essential part of generating a new water resource as well as protecting the receiving water environments. Thus, the fundamental principles of wastewater treatment and monitoring are focused in this book. It is believed that this book will help the readers to deal with various water environmental problems in Asian countries.
