Printed in Arabid with a fully vocalised text ornamental devices opening each volume, bound in near contemporary Ottoman style leather bindings with flaps, each bearing mashriqi numerals corresponding to the volumes housed in that volume, covers tooled in blind and silver, orange endpapers. Some light shelfwear to extremities, the occasional instance of light scattered foxing, generally a remarkably clean and well preserved set. A rare Istanbul edition of the most comprehensive and authentic collection of Hadith in Sunni Islam based on the authoritative version of al-Yunini printed in 1313 AH / 1895 CE by the Bulaq Press following a royal decree by Sultan Abdul Hamid II. Shortly after this publication the Ottoman scholar Mehmed Zihni Efendi (1846-1913) prepared the Sahih's first Istanbul edition, of which the present copy is one example. According to the colophon this edition was thoroughly cross-referenced and corrected against the most reliable manuscripts, and proof read by a committee of the finest scholars, with Mehmed Zehni Efendi being named among them. The Yuniniyyah (or the recension of al-Yunini) is widely regarded as the most authoritative and precise critical edition of Sahih al-Bukhiri in Islamic scholarship. Compiled in Damascus around 666 AH (1267 CE) by the Levantine hadith scholar Sharaf al-Din al-Yunini, this monumental project standardised the text of the most authentic Sunni Hadith collection by resolving variations that had arisen over centuries of oral and written transmission. Before the advent of printing presses, Sahih al-Bukhari existed in multiple distinct transmissions, each containing minor textual, grammatical, or word-order differences.
