(Abstract:) "The main purpose of this thesis is analyse and trying to explain the appea…rance of the old rolling mill-complex in Smedjebacken muncipality throughout time. To reach the desired results we have made an economic-historical survey as well as ocular observations. We have also included a discussion about the reuse concept and different value-criteria concerning elderly industrial structures. The study of the economic-historical background confirms that the specific development of The Rolling Mill of Smedjebacken in general follows the irontrade development in Sweden as a whole. The inventory of the built environment has resulted in a main caracterization of the buildings. The different building periods have also been established. In our conservation oriented discussion about preservation, retrieval and recycling we have tried to show how an old industrial building complex, with advantage can be seen as an economic and material resource as well as cultural heritage".
