Subtitle: A View of the "Dollar Paradise" based on personal experience. First edition was published in 1941. Anti USA propaganda pamphlet citing the… famous P. T. Barnum sentence "there is a fool born every minute," and elaborates on Sinclair Lewis' propensity to write critically about the average American in the introduction. Poking fun of the USA Ahlswede writes about Lewis' yearly two months visits of America, visiting Dr. Feesplitter, who's assistant was. This extensive, photo-illustrated publication opens with "The 14 American Characteristics" that could be attributed to Americans: of the uniform American philistines could be said: 1. They believe everything what they see in print ("I saw it in the papers"). E.g. even preparations to attack the US by Martians and Germans or the like.' 2. They have all the same views and use the same sayings (snappy sayings), which are fashionable at the time and memorized and repeated like parrots do. and so on, highlighting American characteristics to make them look like uneducated and superficial gregarious animals. Though dead set on making the Americans look bad the publication covers a surprisingly wide spectrum of American society. Text in German. Light wear along edges of wraps. Block age-toned due to low paper quality.
