First published in 1928 and positively reviewed by the great Russian children's poet Korney Chukovsky, the text of LITTLE BROTHERS includes lullabies sung by…mothers to their children in India, China, Africa, and the Soviet Union, with the recurring refrain: You are not alone (?? ?? ??????). Barto, whose LITTLE BROTHERS would be "one of the books thrown on the bonfires in Nazi Germany" (Hellman), worked as a war correspondent on the Western Front and in the course of her career received both the Order of Lenin and the Hans Christian Andersen Award, among other honors. BRATISHKI was translated into 29 languages and enjoyed great popularity through the 1930s. 8.5'' x 7.5''. Saddle-stapled pictorial wraps. Color lithograph illustrations throughout. 16 pages (including wrappers.) Mild edgewear and faint creasing. Quite well preserved.
