'Izz al-Din Abdul Hamid bin Hibat Allah, Known as Ibn abi al-Hadid (1190-1258) was a Mu'tazili scholar and a writer. He is known for his commentary on the Nahj al-Balagha which he titled Sharh Nahj al-Balagha. This work was composed by Ibn abi al-Hadid criticizing the work of Ibn al-'Athir entitled "Al-Mathal al-Sa'ir". The debate between Ibn abi al-Hadid and his followers and those who were defending Ibn al-'Athir's treatise continued. A leading Damascene scholar al-Salah al-Safadi joined the debate and wrote in 1349 a book defending Ibn abi al- Hadid and refuting the work of Rukin al-Din al-Sijari entitled "Nashr al-Mathal al-Sa'ir wa Tayyi al-Falak al-Da'ir". This work by Ibn abi al-Hadid is the first edition published using lithography. #35248.
