Thorn-Drury. Bound in full limp vellum with gilded lettering on the side and leather strips visible close to the spine. Slots for ties close to edges, ties not present (I have not seen an example with ties being present). Minor darkening to spots of the vellum, one croner (rear - lower) with a crease. All edges untrimmed. The interior is clean, clear, and crisp with a tight spine. Pages:(10) (16) 194 (2) Dimensions:7¾ x 5¼ x 1.

Frances Pendrill, descended from Richard Pendrill, who saved King Charles II (B. Burke, A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry of Great Britain & Ireland, Vol. 1, London 1906, 11th ed., p. 154), on t-p. Small tear affecting foot of D2 and large tear to margin and centre of F5, no text loss. Light browning and age yellowing, some waterstainingon initial and final leaves, a very few ms. notes throughout. In early calf binding, gilt title on red morocco label to spine, spine and corners somewhat worn. A Bachelor of Arts and Fellow of St. John s College, Abraham Wright (1611-1690) published the results of his lighter reading in the Bodleian in a little volume printed by Leonard Lichfield. This book is mainly in verse and it is an anthology including poetry extracts, poems, and epigrams by various authors, from the Middle Ages to the early modern period, whose books are kept in the prestigious Oxford library. It includes an epigram on tobacco at page 218, which testifies to the novelty of tobacco smoking and chewing and the spread of its consumption at the time. During C17th, tobacco and its properties were debated all over Europe, with many supporters and as many opponents, King James I among the latter.

A limited edition work, with this copy being number 50 of 66 copies printed on hand-made paper, handsomely bound in the publisher's original full vellum.Edited by G Thorn-Drury, this is a new limited edition of the 1656 poetry collection 'Parnassus Biceps', widely credited to Abraham Wright, a Church of England clergyman and author, best known for his theological works and this collection of poetry.Frederick Etchells & Hugh Macdonald were a small publishers based in Kensington who mostly concentrated on reproductions of 17th century works, and were active from the 1924 to 1930. In the publisher's original full vellum binding. Externally, vellum lightly age toned, with loss and fraying to cloth ties. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. book.
