An interesting exhibition documenting four Danish painters from the De Fire group. They showed together 7 times in Copenhagen in the 1920s, at which time they mostly lived in France. Characterized by their self-conscious, yet innocent humor and irony, these artists greatly impacted and invigorated the Modernist art movement in Denmark. Inspired by great masters such as Cezanne, they painted varied figurative, still life paintings with a cubist connotation. A fabulous portrayal of this momentous yet short-lived movement with excellent reproductions of their work accompanied by essays on their philosophies, failures, and successes., Danish, Year1996, Illust.
