Abbott was a distinguished naval officer who fought on the frigate President during the War of 1812. He was tried, on charges brought by Porter, for making "scandalous and false insinuations" of corruption against his superior officer, Captain Isaac Hull, perhaps the greatest American naval hero of the War of 1812. Found guilty, Abbot was suspended from the naval service for the period of two years. Churchill Caldom Cambreleng [1786-1862] was a New York City merchant and politician. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1821 to 1839, where he was a prominent member who chaired several high-profile committees. He later served as U.S. Minister to Russia from 1840 to 1841. Cohen, Bibliography of Early American Law 13396. Boston: Russell & Gardner, 1822. First edition. (illustrator).
