Wave after wave of youths inundated Beijing and gathered in Tiananmen Square to be welcomed, greeted and endorsed buy Chairman Mao & Marshal Lin who was appointed by Mao to look after the Hong Wei Bing. . Mao & Lin spoke to the huge rally, officially endorsing and encouraging the "Red Guards" to root out "capitalists," "landlords," "money lenders," "intellectuals," "counter revolutionaries" and any others identified as enemies of the state. . The Red Guards and youths soon resorted to anarchy, settling personal grudges, Kangaroo Court trials, convictions and punishments. Millions were brutally beaten up, murdered, and punished in public by hanging and beating to death.
