Amiot: 'Solutions Raisonnées' (7th revised and enlarged edition, 1879, Librairie Ch. Delagrave) and 'Applications de la Géométrie Élémentaire' (4th revised and enlarged edition, 1865, P. Tandou). Amiot was professor of mathematics at the Lycée Saint-Louis, Paris; Desvignes was professor at the Collège Chaptal, Paris.

THE NEW YORK TIMES calls him "part tinkerer and part storyteller, a cross between Alexande…r Calder and Jean Tinguely;" filmmaker James Ivory compares him to Picasso, noting his ability to "pick up any old thing lying around, see its possibilities for transformation and then turn it into a new and enchanting thing" (RURAL INTELLIGENCE). Pasquier-Desvignes's book sculptures highlight his ingenuity, creativity, and humor, as he toys with the idea of a codex as a container. A copy of the 6th edition of MARRIAGE FOR MODERNS by Henry A. Bowman provides a meaningful setting for this pair of wire figures in the midst of a battle or tug-of-war. Pasquier-Desvignes's addition of a silhouette of a couple behind them implies that this struggle is occurring behind-the-scenes, presenting a commentary on the power dynamics of a modern marriage. 9.25'' x 7.5''. Original blue cloth binding. Bookblock fused with glue, with rectangular recess cut into center. Two figures made of found materials including metal wire mounted into recess, with silhouette behind. Binding with a bit of soil to boards. Scattered mild foxing to silhouette. Shows nicely.
