Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Unearthing the overlooked poet behind Poetry magazineHarriet Monroe, whose work as the visionary founding editor of Poetry magazine profoundly shaped the development of American poetry in the 20th century, was a vital and prolific poet in her own right. This volume showcases the sweeping breadth of Monroe's poetic talents.Monroe lived through a period of immense change and global conflict, from the American Civil War, through World War I and the Great Depression, up to the first stirrings of the second Great War. Through her poetry, Monroe confronted major issues, critiquing war, the impact of industrialization on the arts, and inequality, while championing women's rights and environmental conservationissues that remain pressingly relevant today. Monroe's three collections of poetry, as well as her own 'selected poems' volume, have all long been out of print. This book, then, represents the first appearance of many of these poems in more than 100 years. This selection includes meditations on modern technology and globalization in the early 20th century, love lyrics, hymns to the deserts of the American West, feminist reflections on gender and motherhood, and more. The volume also includes a number of poems that have never before been published, drawing on manuscripts found in Monroe's papers at the University of Chicago Library.Students at the University of NebraskaLincoln, under the guidance of Kevin McMullen, project manager of the Walt Whitman Archive, selected these poems to capture the range and breadth of Monroe's styles and poetic interest. The poems, along with an extensive critical introduction and explanatory notes, establish Monroe's place as an important and overlooked Modernist poet from the Midwest.…

In den WarenkorbHardcover. PResumed first edition/first printing. xvi, 191, [1] p. Tables. Figures. Notes. Appendices. This was published for the American Society of International Law. This volume is intended to provide general readers with an appreciation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty's possibilities and problems, as foreseen by a diverse group of highly qualified experts. In 1967 the American Society of International Law established a Panel on Nuclear Energy and World Order. The members of the panel represented different disciplines--law, the natural sciences, the social sciences--had brought to the effort a variety of experience in government, the academic community, research organizations, and private industry. This volume is not a committee report. It is a collection of essays that have taken into account suggestions by panel members. Mr. Boskey was the Chairman of the Panel and Mr. Willrich was the Panel's Rapporteur. From an on-line posting: Bennett Boskey is currently in solo practice and formerly was a partner in the law firm of Volpe, Boskey and Lyons and its predecessors until its dissolution in 1996. He was special assistant to the Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice in 1943, an adviser on enemy property in the U.S. Department of State in 1946-47, and an attorney for the Atomic Energy Commission from 1947 to 1949, where he served as deputy general counsel in 1949-51. Mr. Boskey has written extensively on legal subjects, particularly on matters relating to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. He was for many years a member of the International Legal Studies Program Advisory Council of the American University Washington College of Law, as well as a member of the Board of Review and Development of the American Society of International Law. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School. After law school he clerked successively for Judge Learned Hand, Justice Stanley Reed, and Chief Justice Harlan F. Stone." Good. No dust jacket. Cover has some wear and soiling.…

Zustand: Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Seiten: 278 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | In the forgotten corners of the forest, where the trees whisper secrets older than the land itself, the Dark Witch waits. Known by many names-sometimes as the Shadow Enchantress, sometimes as the Cursed Sorceress-she is a figure steeped in dread and mystery. Legends speak of her as a once-beautiful woman who sought forbidden knowledge, delving deep into the arcane until the darkness consumed her very soul. Now, she is neither fully human nor entirely spirit, existing in the liminal space between the living and the dead. Her powers are vast, born of the darkest magic that bends the natural world to her will. It is said she can summon storms with a flick of her hand, curse entire villages with a single chant, and see into the hearts of those who dare to cross her path. Her eyes, a swirling mix of obsidian and silver, glow with the eerie light of the moon, and those who gaze into them are often lost to madness or death. The Dark Witch is bound by no earthly laws. She appears when the veil between the living and the supernatural thins-during the witching hour, on the night of a blood moon, or when a terrible act of betrayal occurs. Those who seek her power, or even her attention, often find themselves paying a terrible price, as her bargains are not easily broken. For the price of immortality, one may lose their humanity. For the price of forbidden knowledge, one might forfeit their soul. Her lair, hidden deep within the heart of the forest, is a place of unnatural stillness. The air is thick with the scent of herbs and incense, and the ground is forever marked by twisted roots and shifting shadows. No animal dare enter her domain, and the plants grow in strange, unnatural patterns as though touched by the hand of the supernatural. The Dark Witch's influence stretches far beyond her home. Whispers of her power reach into the hearts of men, pulling the weak-willed and the desperate into her grasp. Many are driven mad by her enchantments, while others vanish without a trace, leaving only the faintest trace of her signature-a single black feather, an ominous crow's call in the distance, or the smell of burning herbs on the wind. Her presence is an omen-a sign that something ancient and dangerous stirs in the world. And for those who encounter her, the question is not if they will escape, but how much of themselves they will lose before they do.…
