Gr.-Oktav. Zeitgenössisches, goldgeprägtes Ganzleinen (etwas lichtrandig). VIII, 300 S.; VI, 297 (+1) S.; VIII, 291 (+1) S., gutes Exemplar. [=Corpus Medicorum Graecorum; VI, 1-2.1]. - "The initial stimulus for Oribasius' work as a medical writer was a suggestion by Julian that he prepare abstracts (epitomai) of Galen's works; this composition has not survived. His most extensive surviving work (although it was not transmitted intact) is Iatrikai synagogai (or Collectiones medicae), which contains excerpts from the writings of the more important Greek physicians. These extracts are primarily, but not entirely, verbatim. From this large work he produced Synopsis for Eustathius (also extant), a kind of abridged edition or vade mecum for his son. There still exists For Eunapius, a collection of easily procured medicines compiled for the layman. The known lost works, in addition to the historical account already mentioned, are To the Perplexed Physicians, On Diseases, Anatomy of the Intestines, and, outside the field of medicine, On Royal Rule (only the title of the last work is known). Two spurious writings are extant: Introductions to Anatomy and a commentary on the Aphorisms of Hippocrates. (The authorship of the commentary, which is preserved only in Latin translation, should be carefully examined since it contains material of interest for the history of medicine.) [.] The best ed. of the genuine writings is by H. Raeder in Corpus medicorum Graecorum. (F. Kudlien in DSB). - PROVENANCE: The book offered comes from the library of the world-famous Karl-Sudhoff-Institute for the History of Medicine (and Sciences) of the Leipzig University, which was dispersed by sale by the end of 2018. The institute was the first of its kind in the world when it was founded in 1906 and through its existence it gained much considerable relevance for the international emergence of a modern history of science and the source-based cultural studies. The institute was overseen by Karl Sudhoff, the most important historian of medicine of the 20th century, as was the annexed library that contained a high number of volumes sent (and sometimes even dedicated) to him personally. After Sudhoff's death in 1938 the institute was renamed to Karl-Sudhoff-Institut in honour of his achievements. All books from this library offered by us (about 2.500) were properly withdrawn from the Leipzig University Libraries holdings and bear corresponding marks (such as handwritten signatures on spines, stamps on titlepages or fly leaves). In general these were added to the volumes in a very careful manner and do not or only to a very small or neglectable degree affect the aesthetical appearance of the books. - SHIPPING TO COUNTRIES OTHER THAN GERMANY: As most platforms for the trade of antiquarian books do not supply us sellers with the opportunity of offering weight-based shipping rates, the rate automatically displayed by them may not be sufficient to cover our costs. For this particular item therefore the following standard rates will apply (and will be adjusted during check-out): EC-COUNTRIES: 16 EURO --- NON-EU-EUROPE (incl. RUSSIA) & NORTH AMERICA: EURO 40 --- REST OF THE WORLD: EURO 50 [=Corpus Medicorum Graecorum; VI, 1-2.1]. - Erste Ausgabe dieser maßgeblichen Rezension, sehr selten angeboten. - Leider ohne den letzten 1933 erschienen 4.
