She was reared largely by her father, a geologist, in western mining camps, and she could shoot a rifle and ride a horse at an early age. This novel is semi-autobiographical in that it is based on that part of her life. She founded the International Sunshine Society. Illustrated by J.A. Walker. When France was occupied in 1940, he joined the French Resistance, operating underground under the name Aréne. In 1943, he managed to escape to Switzerland . Aroneanu authored 58 publications.
