Hardcover. Zustand: Good+. 1st ed. Black cloth binding. prev.owner's label and sig. to front pastedown. Apparently this set comprises offprints privately hard-bound. The binding is quite shaky, most of the spine has gone and front gutter is open, first leaf is very loose and final leaf has two tears to inner margin due to binding problem. Nevertheless the rest of the contents are sound. A particularly interesting set of papers reflecting the growing unease about the concept of 'Moral Imbecility' (which saw so many young unmarried mothers locked up for life).

These cover a variety of topics from Hungarian Psychology, psychophysics and Ernst Mach to Halbwachs, Valeria Diences and cognitive psychology. Mostly from mid-1990s, occasionally earlier. The only flaw is that green name stamp of Roger Smith to verso front cover has slightly leaked through to recto. I think this was probably produced on the occasion of a Cheiron Europe conference in Budapest. Size: 15.5 Cms x 21 Cms.

Medieval synonym literature is a comprehensive field, which, as a text genre, has not received due attention in philological scholarship until now. This volume contains the first critical edition of Book 29 of Shem Tov ben Isaac's Sefer ha-Shimmush and a lexicological analysis of the medico-botanical terms in the first of the two synonym lists of this book. The Sefer ha-Shimmush was compiled in Southern France in the middle of the thirteenth century. The list edited in this volume consists of Hebrew or Aramaic lemmas, which are glossed by Arabic, Latin and Romance (Old Occitan and, in part, Old Catalan) synonyms written in Hebrew characters. Containing over 700 entries, this edition is one of the most extensive glossaries of its kind. This copy has code M-N at the bottom, making it a December 1963 imprint, rushed to press following the assassination. 266 pages. The first is: Mrs. Donald Russell, with warmest best wishes, and the deep sentiments of friendship, Donald Russell [Russell was Gov of SC from 1963-65 and served in the US Senate after that.] Also signed by Mrs. Birch Bayh Jr., [her husband was Senator from Indiana]. A bit of a puzzle to imagine all the Governors and Ex-Governors and their wives all mingling together to sign this book, but that's likely how it came to be.
