Zustand: FINE. First US printing. An extensively researched and comprehensive look at the life, music and influence of the legendary - and controversial - jazz musician Miles Davis. Volume 1 covers his life and career up to 1960, while Volume 2 focuses on 25 years of growth, retirement, re-invention and controversy after 1960 - and especially on the young musicians whom he recruited and whose careers he encouraged, including Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corryea, Keith Jarrett and many others. (Although, as someone who still remembers seeing the Miles Davis sextet play 5 nights in a row in 1970, I think this book, with its emphasis on recordings, somewhat misses the magic.) Illustrated with photographs. Each volume has a bibliography and index. xii, 344 pp, 416 pp. Very near fine in a like dustjackets and slipcase. (previous owner's name, that of a scultptor and artist).…
