Questo libro, tradotto oggi nelle principali lingue europee, all'epoca in cui fu scritto (1641) circolò in pochi esemplari anonimi e con false indicazioni di luogo e data di stampa a causa della feroce persecuzione censoria. Fu considerata l'opera piú diabolica e immorale del Seicento. La vicenda, ambientata nella Grecia classica, vede l'anziano Filòtimo, maestro del bell'Alcibiade, sperimentare tutta la propria scienza oratoria per convincere il giovane scolaro a concedergli le sue grazie, argomentando con un abile e pretestuoso ragionamento retorico come ciò sia cosa giusta e necessaria. Ciò che rende avvincente il dialogo è la fresca intelligenza, non priva di falso candore, del giovane Alcibiade, contrapposta all'untuoso pedagogismo dell'anziano precettore. Al termine del vivace confronto dialettico l'allievo accondiscende a soddisfare i sensi del suo precettore suscitando lo scandalo che condannò il libro alla damnatio memoriae. A cura di Laura Coci.
