Zwischen 1434 und 1444 lebte er in Straßburg und und gründete dort mit anderen das Unternehmen "aventur und kunst" (Kunst hier im damaligen Sprachgebrauch "handwerkliches Können"). Mit der Erfindung eines Handgießinstrumentes für Metall-Lettern konnte er mit deren Hilfe bis zum Jahr 1453 nach einer Vulgata-Vorlage die 42-zeilige, so genannte Gutenberg-Bibel drucken: abgekürzt B 42 (heute noch 49 erhalten).
