No son sino una reflexión sobre la vida, la fama, la fortuna y la muerte, bajo el prisma de la resignación cristiana; pero acaban por ser también un canto a la vida en medio de la tradición cuatrocentista de la muerte. Inspiradas en los precedentes clásicos medievales del género y en el Eclesiastés, también contienen alusiones a la historia reciente de Castilla e incluso a sucesos en los que pude estar presente el propiom autor.
