L`opera si basa fortemente sugli scritti degli astrologi arabi, di quelli tolemaici e degli scrittori del periodo classico. Bonatti o Bonatus è autore di numerose opere astronomiche e uno degli astrologi più famosi e influenti del XIII secolo. Nel 1260 promosse l` \"Astrologus Communis Florentiae de Forolivio \". L`opera in esame è una storia di scienze magiche e sperimentali. Al loro tempo i sacerdoti babilonesi profetizzavano per il loro re decodificando le osservazioni delle eclissi. Queste previsioni erano divise in sette parti, in quanto sette erano i pianeti celesti tradizionali: Sole, Luna, Mercurio, Marte, Venere, Giove e Saturno. Berosus, sacerdote del tempio di Bel, è considerato il primo autore dei trattati astrologici, anche se Luciano di Samosata pensava che gli etiopi fossero gli astrologi più antichi. Più tardi, gli egiziani svilupparono la vecchia scienza e i greci la presero come l`unico metodo di divinazione e lo perfezionarono; i romani fecero loro queste teorie conidzionando ogni aspetto della loro vita sociale e individuale. La pubblicazione dell`opera in esame influenzò certamente Leonardo da Vinci, come ebbe a scrivere Solmi: \"Che tal opera astrologica fosse posseduta dal Vinci è cosa naturale, prima per la gran fama del Bonatti, poi per le pregevoli nozioni di soda astronomia e di altre scienze, che vi sono contenute\". Esemplare in buone condizioni complessive, su carta croccante, bene inchiostrato e ad ampi margini; prima carta incollata al margine interno alla carta bianca che la precede, così come l`ultima carta, incollata sul foglio bianco che la segue; lievi gore all`interno del margine superiore, che compare e scompare lungo il volume, a cui si accompagna una lieve gora al margine esterno alle ultime carte, sempre lontano dal testo; piccolissimi fori di tarlo alle prime carte, più estesi ultime 4.
