Un des 50 exemplaires de cette première édition, publiée au sein des Services d'arpentage (Canada), à l'usage des employés de l'équipe. Hommage de l'auteur sous forme de carte. (Nous laissons une enveloppe jointe contenant quelques photographies anciennes sans rapport avec l'ouvrage). Édouard-Gaston Daniel Deville (21 Février 1849 à La Charité, France - le 21 Septembre 1924 à Ottawa, Ontario, Canada ) a été le premier à mettre au point une méthode pratique de la photogrammétrie, la fabrication de cartes basées sur la photographie. Il était l'arpenteur général du Canada (1885-1924) et Directeur général du Canada pour le Bureau des enquêtes (1922-1924). De son vivant, les arpenteurs canadiens ont utilisé sa technique phototopographique pour cartographier 83 678 kilomètres carrés, soit environ la taille du Royaume-Uni.La première édition de ce livre a été publié en 1889, au sein du bureau des Services d'arpentage, et a été réservée à l'usage des inspecteurs de levés photographiques. Il n'a été tiré que cinquante exemplaires.
