Throughout his work Lawrence was concerned with the nature of relationships, and his writings confront issues relating to emotional health and vitality, spontaneity, sexuality, and instinctive behaviour. He was generally classed as a realist, reflecting upon the dehumanizing effects of modernity and industrialisation. His work was famously censored and the author endured an unsettled career beset by persecution and a self-imposed exile, and at the time of his death, his public reputation was that of a pornographer who had wasted his considerable talents. E. M. Forster, in an obituary notice, challenged this widely held view, describing him as 'the greatest imaginative novelist of our generation' and he is now widely valued as a visionary thinker and a significant representative of modernism in English literature.

Pages are bright and clean in Lawrence, Proctor and Bourdillon, with the small odd spot to first and last leaves. Spotting a little more heavier and frequent to Arnold.
