The exterior shows edge wear, scuffs and scratches on the front cover, spine and back cover. Interior with minor signs of wear.; Catalogue from an exhibition held at Hong Kong Museum of Ar, from 6 January to 15 February 1984.; "The theme of this exhibition displays the many facets of one of the major Asian imports: Ceramics. Ever since the early 17th century, the fleets of the Dutch East India Company had been bringing back loads of porcelain which rapidly became much sought-after luxuries. An almost inevitable consequence was the alacrity with which potteries at home, in Delft in particular, started imitating the material, shapes and decorations of Oriental China. The picture becomes more complicated, but more interesting too, due to the circumstance that these initially competitive imitations soon began to display an originality and quality of their own. Interrelations between East Asian pottery centres and the Dutch potteries of Delft provide the background for this exhibition. The theme is in perfect keeping with present-day interest in a more cultural-historical approach to the past, an approach which has proved extremely fruitful, and also for the history of ceramics." excerpt from the foreword by Robert R. de Haas Director, State-owned Art Collections.
