This book examines collaborative communication among homeroom teachers (HRTs), assistant language teachers (ALTs) and pupils during English lessons in a Japanese primary school, focusing on how they work together to facilitate language teaching and learning. The collected interaction data among the HRTs, the ALTs and the pupils were analysed to reveal what is actually happening in English classes in a Japanese primary school. This book will be helpful not only for primary school teachers but also for policymakers and researchers worldwide who are interested in English education at the primary level in an Asian context, with the aim of ensuring effective English language teaching for young learners.
