This book consists of complete transcriptions and fully-annotated translations allowing comparisons between 18th century and present approaches in geology, philosophy, and pedagogy. A critical review of the evolution of the controversial significance of the term Geographie physique for geologists and geographers, from the 18th century until today, concludes the presentation which should be of interest to a large spectrum of scientists, historians of science and education, and classicists. Albert V. Carozzi, Professor Emeritus of Geology at the University of Illinois, is a recognized international authority on the history of geology of the 18th century and the leading specialist on H.-B. de Saussure. John K. Newman, Professor Emeritus of the Classics at the University of Illinois, is a latinist scholar well-known in Europe for his critical studies and poems."
