The Small Junior High School - Softcover

The Small Junior High School

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Small Junior High School' is a meticulous academic study concerning the administrative and pedagogical challenges unique to smaller secondary educational institutions during the early twentieth century. Francis T. Spaulding provides a detailed examination of how the junior high school model, originally developed for large urban environments, functions within the constraints of smaller districts. The work analyzes critical factors such as curriculum breadth, staff organization, and the provision of extracurricular activities, offering a data-driven look at the effectiveness of these schools in meeting contemporary educational standards. The text explores the inherent tension between the ambitious goals of the junior high movement-including vocational guidance and individualization-and the practical limitations of restricted resources and smaller student populations. Through rigorous comparative analysis, Spaulding identifies the specific obstacles faced by small schools and proposes strategic improvements for administrators and educators. This volume serves as an essential historical resource for understanding the evolution of the American middle school system, providing deep insight into the structural development of secondary education and the history of school reform in the United States. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
