A spinoff of the much acclaimed 12-volume The Motion Picture Guide ( LJ 8/85), this new annual provides excellent reviews of 433 films released here last year. The reviews provide lively plot synopses with delightfully articulate (and often comical) film analyses, the details of their production, extensive cast and credits lists, a handy zero-to-five star quality rating system, and the MPAA morality ratings. Not to be confused with the hardcover annual supplements to the Motion Picture Guide , which covers more films worldwide, the present work is smaller, includes mostly U.S. films, and omits documentaries, shorts, and concert films.
