The spines with five raised bands and a single gilt floral motif in each compartment, black title labels. Simple printed paper label of Levenside on each front pastedown. "J. Ward" corrected in MS. to "T. Ward" in vol. 1; correctly printed in vol. 2.'An account of the life and writings of Mr. Abraham Cowley' signed: T. Sprat. 'The mistress; or, several copies of love-verses', 'Pindarique odes, written in imitation of the stile and manner of the odes of Pindar', 'Davideis, a sacred poem' (1707), and 'Cutter of Coleman-Street' have separate titlepages; pagination and register are continuous. Cowley, Abraham,M.D; (1618-1667) a poet eminence, was a native of London, where his father was a grocer. "To Cowley we may justly ascribe the formation of a basis on which has since been constructed the present correct and admirable fabric of our language.
