Specimen title, notice and list of purchasers, 4pp.; specimen-notice title,and advertisement, 4pp.; title-page of vol. I of "Principia," with introduction and list of plates, 16pp.; index to the 3 volumes of Principia, [26]; 8 plates. Additionally bound in is a letterpress notice, mainly in French, from J W Holtrop ( Author of Monumens Typographiques des Pays-Bas au XVe siecle), which has an inked note signed S Leigh Sotheby. Loosely laid-in are 2 plates and 8 pages, with pencilled notes also by Sotheby. Half Morocco, decorative cloth, gilt title to spine, top edge gilt. Some rubbing, wear to extremities, bookplate removed from front pastedown, which has a small bookseller label to bottom edge, some soiling, spotting internally, loose leaves chipped, edgeworn. The copies of the ''Principia'' were not published in the ordinary way, but offered to the trade by Messrs Sotheby & Co. at a public auction, the upset price being nine guineas each copy.
