Signed by Howard on a laid-in, four-page folder promoting the Montana Children's Home And Hospital and the Shodair Crippled Children's Hospital, with one page showing Howard's visit there. Also, with a signed presentation from Howard on a portrait frontispiece to a doctor (perhaps one at the hospital?). Joseph Edgar Howard [1870-1961] was an American Broadway composer, lyricist, librettist, and performer. A famed member of Tin Pan Alley along with wife and composer Ida Emerson as part of the song-writing team of Howard and Emerson. His hits include "Hello! Ma Baby" and Broadway musicals like "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now?". "Montana"- the official song of the state of Montana- was written by Charles Cohan and composed by Howard in 1910. It was adopted as the state song on February 20, 1945. Royalties from the song continue to go the Montana Children's Home and Hospital. Howard died on stage in Chicago while singing "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" during a curtain call on May 19, 1961. In 1970, Howard was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame by the ASCAP Hall of Fame Committee. A very interesting copy of a rare, self-published book!.
