As single women traverse the socio-cultural, economic, and religious landscape, Dr. Rather engages the reader to consider what it means to be a single woman of faith living in this 21st century, and particularly trying to unravel some of the traditional beliefs of the church and religion in determining whether they are a help, or a hindrance. Dr. Rather is honest as she shares her own experiences and expertise in working with single women in the church. She asks the question as to whether single women of faith can find their own sense of empowerment while both acknowledging the contemporary world in which we live, and the Holy God we serve.

Dr. Vanetta R. Rather is the Founder and Executive Director of My Sister My Seed, a non-profit that empowers and supports women and youth. She is a dynamic preacher, teacher, and author. Dr. Rather holds a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC.
