Reseña del editor:
Foundations in Applied Nuclear Engineering Analysis (2nd Edition) covers a fastpaced one semester course to address concepts of modeling in mathematics, engineering analysis, and computational problem solving needed in subjects such as radiation interactions, heat transfer, reactor physics, radiation transport, numerical modeling, etc., for success in a nuclear engineering/medical physics curriculum. While certain topics are covered tangentially, others are covered in depth to target on the appropriate amalgam of topics for success in navigating nuclearrelated disciplines. Software examples and programming are used throughout the book, since computational capabilities are essential for new engineers. The book contains a array of topics that cover the essential subjects expected for students to successfully navigate into nuclearrelated disciplines. The text assumes that students have familiarity with undergraduate mathematics and physics, and are ready to apply those skills to problems in nuclear engineering. Applications and problem sets are directed toward problems in nuclear science. Software examples using Mathematica software are used in the text. This text was developed as part of a very applied course in mathematical physics methods for nuclear engineers. The course in Nuclear Engineering Analysis that follows this text began at the University of Florida; the 2nd edition was released while at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Biografía del autor:
Dr Glenn Sjoden wrote the second edition of this text while on the faculty at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His career nuclear engineering experience spans a broad range of applications, having served in numerous capacities: technical director, nuclear research officer, professor, lead design engineer, and licensed engineering consultant. During his military career, Dr Sjoden served as an Air Force nuclear research officer from 1984 to 2004, which included three separate assignments working on treaty monitoring missions with the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), and as a United States Air Force Academy faculty member. In 2004, Dr Sjoden retired as a lieutenant colonel after 20 years of active service. From 2004 to 2010, he served as a faculty member of the University of Florida (UF) in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering, as the UF Florida Power & Light Endowed Term Professor for Nuclear Power Research. From 2010 to 2014, Dr Sjoden served as a tenured professor of Nuclear and Radiological Engineering in the George W Woodruff School at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, and as a Joint Faculty with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and also as the Director of Georgia Tech's Radiological Science and Engineering Laboratory. During his 10 years in academia, Dr Sjoden also served as an international consultant, and is the principal developer of the PENTRAN 3-D parallel deterministic radiation transport code. In July 2014, Dr Sjoden became the Chief Scientist, AFTAC, at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida.
