On the occasion of its centennial anniversary, the German Verein f r Kunstwissenschaft has compiled all of Renaissance master Matthias Gr newald's known drawings in this opulent volume, which is filled with exquisitely reproduced color plates, complete with critical commentary. Gr newald's 40 surviving studies are some of the most important discoveries of German Renaissance art. Uncovered by art historian Max J. Friedl nder, who posits Gr newald's technique as an antipode to Albrecht D rer's, this publication is the latest example of nearly a century of groundbreaking drawings editions produced by the Verein f r Kunstwissenschaft--the first volume of which, a complete edition of Gr newald's known drawings at the time (1927), has long been out of print. Later editions featured the work of artists such as Martin Schongauer, Albrecht D rer, Hans Baldung Grien, Hans von Kulmbach, Hans Sch ufelein and Lucas Cranach the Elder. The work of Matthias Gr newald (c. 1475-1528) was nearly forgotten until the twentieth century; only a dozen paintings and these drawings have been found. His masterpiece, the Isenheim Altarpiece (c. 1513-1515), was long believed to have been painted by D rer.

Buchbeschreibung Hardcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. 268 pp., 42 ills. clothbound, slipcased 32.70 x 44.20 cm - In this large-format volume, Grünewald s graphic works are presented in carefully color-matched reproductions in their original size and accompanied by critical commentary. Thus it joins the ranks of the scholarly tradition established by earlier volumes of drawings published by the DVfK, which initiated this practice in 1927 with the first complete catalogue of Grünewald s drawings documented at that time, a book that has long been out of print. Later volumes of drawings featured the work of artists such as Martin Schongauer, Albrecht Dürer, Hans Baldung Grien, Hans von Kulmbach, Hans Schäufelein, and Lucas Cranach the Elder. Artikel-Nr.
