A discussion and illustrated catalogue of highly ornate bronze armour plates which have been discovered in Iron Age graves across Italy. Most of the plates are discs, which would have protected the back and chest of the warrior and were connected by shoulder straps. The discs are decorated with elaborate geometric shapes or figurative designs of fantastic animals and warriors. Tomedi compares the discs of different culture groups, mostly located in central Italy, and proposes a typology and chronology between c.750 and 500 BC.
