Elinor is a little girl with a very special bedroom. In this delightful story by Heather Dyer, readers get to join Elinor as her bedroom whisks her away on adventures around the world and even into outer space. She meets a snowman (who slurs as he melts), a fairytale prince (who doesn t particularly impress our sensible heroine), pirates, an astronaut and two girls who are like Elinor but leading different lives in different places. Elinor s experiences are described in a light, humorous yet are also thought provoking manner. Where would you like to wake up? What would you do if you woke up on a stage? What would an older version of yourself have to say to you? Highly recommended. --locustsole
After success with books such as The Girl with the Broken Wing and The Fish in Room 11, Heather Dyer is back again with The Flying Bedroom. This is a book of charming, simple stories for the 5-7 age group. Young children will love the fantasy of the magical flying bedroom, easily relating to not wanting to have their hair washed or go to school, or the excitement of snow. Elinor, dressed in dressing gown and rabbit slippers, has a bedroom which can fly and take her on adventures. She meets talking snowmen, goes to an island and to the theatre where she becomes the reluctant star in Sleeping Beauty. She even journeys to outer space where she walks on the moon as light as a birthday balloon , and lastly goes on a train journey where her love of travel develops into an ambition to see the real world and hints at Elinor s future life. I loved the humour (a melting snowman who can t pronounce his r s: I m like my gwandfather. ) or when Elinor tells Prince Charming and the audience to go away when her bedroom lands on the stage of a theatre in the middle of a performance of Sleeping Beauty. Boys and girls will love the slapstick pirates and the astronaut and Elinor proves herself capable and resourceful when she uses her hair dryer as a thruster to help her bedroom blast off from the moon. An added bonus are the pictures (on almost every page) by talented young illustrator, Chloe Douglass. I really enjoyed The Flying Bedroom and hope you do too! --Cat in a Hat
Reseña del editor:
Elinor's bedroom looks ordinary. But it's not. When Elinor goes to sleep, her bedroom can fly...Elinor never knows where she'll wake up. A tropical island, in a theatre show, helping pirates, on the moon...But her bedroom will always bring her safely home. These magical adventures, charmingly illustrated by Chloe Douglass, work equally well for children to read themselves or for parents to read aloud. With pirates, a train, the moon, a theatre, a snowman and a faraway island, they will appeal to boys and girls. Who doesn't want a bedroom that can fly?
