Frances was born in Ghana. As a child her family travelled extensively due to her father's career in marine law, living in numerous countries before moving to the UK at the age of six. After graduating from the University of Reading, she pursued a career in Human Resources Management, Training and Consultancy, which spanned the UK and Africa.
