You can tell a lot about a person by the books they read.Celbritiies Favourite Books is both a page-turner and an eye-opener. --Alan Titchmarsh, Broadcaster/Writer
In 'Novel Ideas', Jeff Thorburn has persuaded a number of famous people to write about books they have read and enjoyed in the hope that it will encourage others to try something new for their next 'good read'. Celebrities Favourite Books is a good read and will help to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society. --June Whitfield CBE, Actress
This delicious melange of books recommended by well-known readers deserve a place on the most accessible of family bookshelves (in my house, it's the loo!). As well as offering suggestions for further readings the choices people have made were extremely revealing about the choosers! Truly, I think it's splendid - every bookworm, and I've been one all my life will love it. I do hope it raises lots of money for the Alzheimer's Society. --Claire Rayner, Writer
An inspiring read --Philippa Forrester, TV Presenter
For the last 5 years of her life, my own mother suffered dementia, so as a means of raising funds for the Alzheimer s Society I cannot recommend Jeff Thorburn s book highly enough. We know that with Desert Island Discs the subject gets to choose a book to take on the island, but the programme is predominantly to do with musical choice. Novel Ideas turns the tables, in as much as we get to learn more about the literary preference. Fascinating how much one can find out about the character of a person from the choice of his or her favourite book! --Ray Lonnen, Actor
Reseña del editor:
Dementia, including Alzheimer s disease, characterised by mental deterioration and degeneration of the brain, is distressing for both sufferers and those who care for them, and Celebrities' Favourite Books is dedicated to those affected. Containing around 100 letters from well-known people nominating their all-time favourite reads and explaining their choice, this book is designed both to stimulate an interest in reading novels and also to raise awareness of Alzheimer s disease. With a fitting foreword by Princess Alexandra, the aim of the book is to highlight the plight of sufferers and raise awareness of, and funds for, the valuable work carried out by the Alzheimer s Society.
