The Adventures of Mary Ellen - Hardcover

The Adventures of Mary Ellen is a story about a young girl set in the late 18OOs. I have chosen a girl because they would be the most prone to react to events, the less capable in what was then male predominance. Also the story came through from tales which my grandmother told and which led me into a really fascinating story line. She comes without parents and is trodden down by a ruthless mill-owner. She must find work so leaves the village and her adventures begin when she goes into the great unknown world. She becomes involved with rogues, and with horses. There are fights, confrontations and underlying all, is her very strong faith that comes to the fore when she is in need. This is notable and along with the mill life, she becomes somewhat of a figurehead in the wider confines of her new existence. I suppose it could be classed as social history or romantic biography. There is a lot of truth written and I feet inclined to say that it is not the run of the mill tale you may expect from this period.
