This is an intelligent, well-argued and accessible book. If you haven't read Keller before , try him! Church of England Newspaper This excellent book is for the ordinary reading Christian. It is excellent, firstly because it is comprehensive. Unlike nearly all the other works on prayer, it is theological and experiential and methodological ... he deal fascinatingly and satisfyingly with the balance or tension between the mystical/emotional and the intellectual in prayer. Church of England Newspaper I have read many books on prayer, but Keller's stands head and shoulders above the rest... Keller writes with a humble authority. He draws from deep wells of academic and personal knowledge of God and his writing is edifying in the truest sense of the word. Preach Magazine It is daring to call any 21st century book a classic. Yet I don't think that it would be out of place for this masterly work by Tim Keller...The book is comprehensive in its range, well thought through and eminently practical. Keller has probably read everything, ancient and modern on prayer. With engaging skill he helps us explore the mysterious world of prayer. He does so, not so much as an expert teaching principles, but as a praying man allowing us to eavesdrop on his intimate moments with God. Inspire Magazine For Keller, prayer is both conversation and encounter with God and is to be seen as the natural expression of our relationship with God...Keller's book could be read with profit by any Christian. To this reviewer it has a cumulative profundity, and deserves a wide reception. The Church Times A comprehensive treatise on prayer...Keller's book is marinated in scripture and the text positively drips with Bible references that illustrate and support his argument...Intellectually engaging, gospel-centred and well researched...this book has positively influenced my prayer life and made me reconsider my approach to my God. Christianity Magazine A real joy to read. Philip is refreshingly honest about both his struggles and the struggles of others in the area of prayer... The book contains so many nuggets of wisdom and insight that it is tempting to use up all the word allocation by quoting passages... The book undoubtedly deserves the accolade of 'modern classic'. Reseña del editor:
'"Can't anyone teach me how to pray?" Millions of people today are asking the same question. There is a sense of the necessity of prayer - we have to pray. But how?' Prayer is central to Christian faith; indeed, as Timothy Keller notes in his introduction, it is the main way we experience deep change. Yet so many people struggle with prayer - a struggle that the author himself has shared. This wise and inspiring book is the fruit of those struggles, offering a real and glorious vision of what it can mean to seek God in prayer. Keller begins by giving a theological underpinning of what prayer actually is - both conversation and encounter with a personal God - before describing how we can learn to pray, and then deepen that prayer. Finally he gives detailed, practical suggestions on how to make prayer a part of the reality of daily life.
