Críticas:
The dog days of summer are here and the weather is sweltering. So we decided to get back to reading about our favorite sport and dug deep into the pile of unfinished tasks and found Jody Anderson's book: Hockey Moms Aren't Crazy: Well Maybe Just a Little Bit. Jody was featured on a Utah-based National Public Radio program a few months back. Apparently that was not enough to move us to get the read and review done, and we are sorry for that Jody. This is one of those books where you read it once and think, 'Yeah, I get it.' And put it down. But it nags at you that you missed the point, and you pick it up again and read it again and again. Why? Because this is what so many of us know as young hockey players: Mom is or was always there at every practice, every game and every road trip. The book is built around quips, amusing anecdotes and exchanges between Moms and their hockey-playing children. Jody also adds in more than a few reminiscences from former professional hockey players like Jeff Nielson and Mike Peluso. There is also an interview with Mike Eruzione to close the book. You have to read this book a few times before the truths sink in. There's the child who needs a new hockey stick. Queried by Mom as to why, she is told there are no more goals in the current stick. "I'll grab my purse" is the reply. Jody writes the book from a balanced perspective of rabid support by Moms for their children and the need for restraint when appropriate. In particular, this is focused on interactions with coaches "who also have Hockey Moms." Beneath the quips and jokes and banter is the truth of the Hockey Mom. We get to the rink for practice or games because Hockey Mom is there every step of the way. It's the second and third reads of this book that bring the lessons home. Have no fear though; this is anything but a warm and fuzzy approach to Hockey Moms. Yes, the message is clear, but Jody takes an entertaining path to giving the "credit we deserve." So, if you are looking for a great read as the summer begins to edge to fall, pick up a copy of Hockey Moms Aren't Crazy. It will not disappoint and may even get you to thank your own hockey mom. Scott Rolfs provides the supporting artwork for the book and matches the prose well with his work. You can pick up a copy of the book on Jody's website: http: //hockeymomsarentcrazy.com/ In addition, follow her on Twitter at @HockeyMom_Jody Note: Jody Anderson has created The Hockey Journal as a companion piece for hockey players and their Moms. As a Hockey Mom, if you are crazy about statistics this is the book to get for your child. And there is plenty of room for autographs at the back.--Lou Lafrado"Pro Hockey News" (07/22/2015)
Reseña del editor:
Hockey Moms...if we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at? (Besides Soccer Moms!) This funny book pays tribute to Hockey Moms everywhere with hilarious illustrations, jokes and stories - including short funny stories from Hockey Moms and hockey greats, like Mike Eruzione! Finally, a hockey book that gives us the credit we deserve! (Well, okay, our kids deserve a little credit, too.)
