Economic, Industrial, and Managerial Coordination between Japan and the USA - Hardcover

This book addresses the complex questions that surround the economic relations between Japan and the USA. The Ministry of Education in Japan sponsored a three-year comparative analysis of US-Japan economic, industrial and managerial issues. Chiba University in Japan and the University of Alabama in America formed a research team later joined by the East-West Center in Hawaii. This book is the result of that interaction. Many chapters endorse the Structural Impediments Initiatives (SII), concluded in June 1990, and its sequel, the Communication Improvement Initiative (CII), proposed by Prime Minister Kaifu of Japan to address perception gaps. Itself a small contribution to CII, the book suggests coordination needs in foreign trade, direct investment, monetary and fiscal policy, development policy, telecommunications, intellectual property, steel, beef, automobiles and corporate culture. It also identifies important policy issues that affect the increasingly complex US-Japan relationship of the 1990s.
