This text explores international immigration, especially the flight and resettlement of refugees, with particular reference to Vietnam's "boat people". The author had close connections with a number of prominent people and agencies dealing with the problem. His work is also concerned with some more general problems of race relations, particularly those involving Asian groups in America and the conflict between Jews and African-Americans in the inner city.

About the Author: Peter I. Rose is Sophia Smith Professor of Sociology and Anthropology and Director of the American Studies Diploma Program at Smith College. His books include They and We, The Subject is Race, Strangers in Their Midst, Mainstream and Margins, and Working with Refugees.
