Poet and dramatist Frederico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936) was born in Fuente Vaqueros, Spain. A gifted musician, he studied law at Granada but soon turned to the arts, and after publishing a promising book of prose, entered the residence of scholars at Madrid. His CANCIONES, ROMANCERO GITANO place him among the greatest of 20th-Century poets. He wrote successful prose plays, including the trilogy BLOOD WEDDING, YERMA, and THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA. He was assassinated during the Spanish Civil War.
