A multi-sensory approach to language arts for specific language disability children

Part of the legacy Beth H. Slingerland left to dedicated teachers of children with dyslexia is found in her three textbooks. Just as Norman Geschwind's article upheld Samuel Orton's original thesis of the brain functions of the dyslexic population, present-day successes attest to the effectiveness of Beth H. Slingerland's contributions to the educational world. From the very beginning, Mrs. Slingerland made improvements as the need to do so became apparent. She did not intend for her work to become static with the publication of her textbooks. Observations and reports from directors who worked closely with her prompted Mrs. Slingerland to make some changes in procedures only, not the basic principles underlying the approach. This new edition of Book 2 includes the changes, variations and uses of crutches that Beth Slingerland transmitted to her professional heir, Marty Aho. Ms. Aho and the professional Materials Committee worked diligently to retain Beth Slingerland's work in its entirety. Just as Mrs. Slingerland did in person with her protégées, this new edition transmits added clarity, conciseness, and cohesiveness to future users of their materials.
