Artikelbeschreibung vom Verkäufer

A first impression of the first UK edition, published in 1954. Jacket designed by B. Bird. ***Very good in reddish-brown cloth-covered boards, with black titles to the spine. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges quite clean with just light sporadic foxing. Virtually no internal foxing, with no offsetting to the endpapers. No inscriptions or annotations. Pages clean and uncreased. ***In a very good original illustrated dustwrapper, designed by B. Bird. The dustwrapper has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 10s. 6d. net. The dustwrapper is largely complete, but has slight loss at the head of the spine, and a small chip at the bottom edge of the back panel. Slight rubbing and creasing at the edges. Large closed tear at the bottom corner of the front panel, and a couple of small closed tears at the top edge of the front panel. The back panel, being a white background, is slightly marked, but the dustwrapper is otherwise complete with fresh and vibrant colours. Spine clean and unfaded. ***205mm x 140mm. 188 pages. ***'"The Wars of Love" opens in the nineteen twenties with the friendship of a girl named Milly Moore and three boys, Dan Ford, Freddie Grabhorn and Grant Norman. --- This novel is concerned above all with the uses of love: with betrayal that thinks itself affection, with will that thinks itself passion, with villainy that thinks itself benevolence. --- Mark Schorer was born in Wisconsin in 1908. Educated at the University of Wisconsin and Harvard, he has been writing and teaching simultaneously for nearly twenty years. He is the author of two earlier novels, "A House Too Old" and "The Hermit Place," and has published well over fifty short stories in the magazines, thirty-two of which were collected under the title, "The State of Mind," in 1947.' (Quotes taken from the front and back flaps of the dustwrapper) ***A first impression of the first UK edition, in very good original condition. Uncommon. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
