Twenty-seven essays examine the use of this process in reconstructive surgery. Early chapters cover a history of tissue expansion, benefits and contraindications, planning, histologic changes, devices available for use in the process, external valves, filling of expansion devices, and the avoidance and treatment of complications. Later chapters delve into expansion at various sites on the body, including skin grafts, burn scar expansion, and soft tissue expansion on children. The book concludes with a look at alternative devices and techniques, topical agents and drugs, and the use of tissue expanders on rats. Includes many black and white photos.
