In Piety and Philosophy: A Primer for Christian Schools, Dr. Riesen examined the intersection of faith and academics. Here, with clarity and precision, the author turns his attention to the increasingly prominent and, in his view, increasingly problematic place of sports in Christian schools, addressing the importance we give to the body in our Christian educating (the philosophical question), on the one hand, and what shape, if any, that importance will take (the practical question), on the other. This inquiry also provides the reader with a history of the relationship between Christianity and athletics and education, as well as both the contemporary criticism and defense of sports in our schooling. Anyone concerned about the place of athletics in education, especially Christian education, will learn from this thorough and honest analysis.
