Octavo (8vo). xxii, 106 pp. Publisher?s teal-green cloth, titles to spine in silver, in the original unclipped pictorial dust jacket retaining the publisher?s price of $17.00. Illustrated with five plates after Tolkien?s original artwork, including three in color and two in black and white; dust-jacket artwork also by Tolkien.
Written in 1925 to console Tolkien?s son Michael after the loss of his favorite toy dog, Roverandom follows a small dog who is transformed into a toy by the wizard Artaxerxes and carried on adventures to the Moon and beneath the sea. The story remained unpublished during Tolkien?s lifetime and first appeared in book form in 1998, edited from the surviving manuscripts by Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond.
Contents clean and unmarked, bright throughout. Binding remains sound and square; teal-green cloth and silver spine lettering well preserved. Dust jacket complete and unclipped, with light rubbing and minor stained areas to the rear panel. A Very Good+ copy in a Very Good- dust jacket.
