20cm x 14cm. [400] pages, black and white illustrations. Illustrated wrappers. "Garbage Man -- could refer to Tal R himself as manic collector of what other people would perhaps refer to as refuse. Collecting and arranging of images is an integral component of his artistic practice and arises in its own manifestation from an inner necessity. The Yiddish word �"Kolbojnik�" (Waste, Remains) also runs through the work of the artist within the titling of many of his works. His collection, which can be found within the individual collages, consists of an eclectic mix of �"primitive tribal art�", art history masterpieces, pornos, comics, private photos, childhood pictures, sketches and picture book illustrations, and was collected by Tal R over a period of 25 years. The works evoke in their pseudo-encyclopaedic phenomenon associations, Aby Warburg's Mnemosyne Atlas, or, to refer to another artist, the Atlas by Gerhard Richter. L'artiste danois Tal R (Tal Shlomo Rosenzweig, n� en 1967 � Tel Aviv, vit et travaille � Copenhague) cr�e des peintures dont les textures �paisses et les couleurs vives �voquent des associations avec le monde du jeu de l'enfant. Son travail est influenc� aussi bien par l'art outsider ou l'art des enfants que par les mouvements historiques comme l'expressionnisme, le symbolisme et le fauvisme – il utilise le terme h�breu kolbojnik (les restes) pour d�crire la multiplicit� de ses sources et influences. Tal R a �t� d�crit comme un � peintre de peintres � en raison de l'aisance et de l'exub�rance de son approche du m�dium. Le format des œuvres fait r�f�rence � la disposition de l'�cran des jeux vid�o du d�but des ann�es 80. Au croisement de la bande dessin�e, du graffiti et du gribouillage sauvage, ses peintures pervertissent subtilement la na�vet� d'un livre d'images dans un monde mena�ant, archa�que et apparemment violent.

When visiting our store in person you will most likely find Jenkins sitting at his desk with a pencil behind his ear cataloguing books; he will leave you to browse peacefully but be happy to answer your questions about books or help you find something you saw on the website. The Book Merchant Jenkins also conducts regular rare book auctions (around once a month). The auctions are held live in our West End store and streamed on our website with live online bidding.
